This essay is a short introduction and primer to Freudo-Marxism, using examples and quotations from Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema as a frame of reference. The essay will attempt to draw contemporary parallels (Shrek, Back to the Future, One Piece) where possible to show how the framework can possibly be applied as well as what discussions can be provoked through critical theory.
Largely, this is a small project as part of an effort to explain a school of critical theory to those who might be interested in it, and it is fairly limited in scope.
